I have had a look around and couldn't find an (exact) answer to this one.
So we have had a number of students change courses after they have uploaded and had some work marked in their previous one. Once they have been unenroled from the original course, then enrolled into the new course, i know i can get their work back by re-enrolling them back into the original course.
i would like to know..
If their account has been deleted, can i get the work back?
am i correct in assuming if the original course has been deleted so has their work?
Is there anyway i can get it back, if the course has been deleted?
Please see the section 'Deleting an account' in the documentation Browse list of users for info on what to do if an account is deleted by mistake. It doesn't mention assignment submissions specifically, so it would be helpful if you could test things and post back to let us know whether you were successful in getting them back.
If a course has been deleted, I think you could only get students' work back if you had a recent backup of the course.
Ok, for most of the students i need to recover data, the course has been deleted, however a couple still have there course intact. So what i need to do is recover their deleted account.
"If an account is deleted by mistake, it can be partially restored by resetting the deleted flag to zero in the database and resetting the username and email address. User profile details, user preferences, enrolments, and group and cohort membership data cannot be recovered. Grades may be recovered by re-enrolling the user into their courses and ticking the 'Recover user's old grades if possible' checkbox in the enrolment options. Forum posts are not deleted."
Where do i assess the database for deleted user accounts? and edit it? Also, what is meant by resetting the username and email address?
Are you the site administrator? Do you host the site? You should have some sort of database access. I am not sure what they mean by resetting the username and password - I never had to do that. Just changing the deleted field worked for me.
i am admin, but our site is hosted by others, i have full assess (to my knowledge) but am unsure where on moodle i would access the user database.
i would guess via the "XLMDB editor" at the bottom of the development tab in the site admin block? but i cant seem to find a user file to edit.
if i do have said plugins where might i find them?
Regarding the bit in the documentation about resetting the username and email address, this isn't necessary if you only want to retrieve work, and the student doesn't need to log in any more.
(When an account is deleted, the username and email address are changed by appending a random string of characters to them, so that a new account can be created with the username and/or email address. If the student does need to log in again, you can reset their username and email address by deleting the random string of characters.)
