- After unwrapping the tar.gz, you need to set writability of the moodle directory in your document tree to apache, otherwise a visit to the home page will claim that lib/moodlelib.php is missing Fix: chmod -R apache /var/www/html/moodle
- Can the information about creating the moodledata directory come *before* the instruction to start installing. Fix: always have a terminal window or CP page open beside your browser during installation. Incidentally this too must be writable by apache.
- I screwed up somewhere in reusing the earlier database without emptying it, because the home page install came up with references to "garden" styles that don't now come installed. I know I saw a reference to this somewhere but I can't find it. Perhaps it should come before installation starts, along with the other caveats. Fix: RTFM
