From what I can tell, the MP3 recordings my users make are approximately 128 kbps and in stereo. Is that correct?
I would really like to be able to change those settings so the files aren't so large.
Is there a way to do that?

The bitrate is not available on the MP3 Recorder for technical reasons (ie it must be 44khz or chipmunking occurs)
For the other audio recorder (red5) its available as in the screenshot. The mono/stereo option is not exposed , sorry.

Can I request for future versions the default be changed to mono then? It seems to me that a simple voice audio recorder does not need to be in stereo. This change would basically halve the file size by itself without affecting sound quality.
If the sampling rate can't be reduced from 44 on the MP3s, maybe the compression bit rate could be? 60-80 kbps would suffice for plain voice. Right now I think it's much higher.

It never occurred to me that the file size would be reduced so much going from stereo to mono.
Lets consider that indeed! Next time I work on the recorder I will run some tests.
