Same/Different Moodle courses

Hi,

I'm in the process of upgrading my Moodle 1.9.19 (I know, I know!!) to the later 2.0+ or even try 3.0 by January 2016

Would enrolling 90 students into one course take more server resources than if I created 3 similar courses and enrolled 30 students in each course? Is there any difference?

Whenever I have many students logging on at the same time for lessons, my server seems to hit "RED", so rather than changing to a dedicated server (I'm on VPS now), the "cheapskate" in me is trying to see if there are other ways to explore "optimizing" it before I make that deci$ion.... smile

My lessons uses quite a bit of Flash videos (something like Khan Academy) with virtual whieboard drawings of lesson concepts and voice over, kind of format.

Thanks!

Hi

Your question on splitting students amoung many courses than having then in one, No, there is no difference.

For the other questions about performance, there is a dedicated forum called Hardware and performance: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?id=596. There is some starting pointers on its entry page. The full information appear only when you start a new discussion: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/post.php?forum=94. Go though them. In the mean time you may request the moderator to move your enquiry to that forum.
