Steve, it appears that you are stuck using an older version of moodle until you can upgrade IE. I hate to ask what version of Windows you are using.

Unfortunately I build e learning for a organisation that gives access to many organisations and I have no control on when they will update IE. Unfortunately it is expected they can access the e learning though.
A time will come though when we have to update which will prevent some from accessing the learning.
