Set forum auto-subscribe default (and other) value(s) in Moodle 2.8

Hi everyone!

In previous versions I was able to add a line of code to the user form (editlib.php) to set the default value for "Forum auto-subscribe" to 0, or "No...".

In 2.8 there seems to be a new place where all these default settings are set in the global $CFG. I've spent hours looking for this in the database, files, and GUI and can't find where those defaults are set.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Some defaults can be set at:

Site administration > Users > Accounts > User default preferences
