when I am grading an assignment (2.7) I set the pull down menu "notify students" to yes. I expected moodle to send an emailnotification containing the grade and the feedback. Our moodle does not do this. Are there further important settings?
Best regards and thanks a lot
thanks for your answers.
@Helen: Grading Notification is not listed as an option, neither in the personal settings nor in the admin menu. there is an option like assignment notification which causes only a notification that you have submitted something.
@Emma: Yes, all other mails are sent properly.
There is an option in the grading page of the assignment (Notify students) which is set to yes by default.
I tried it from the interface.
when I submit something I receive an eMail containing: "You have submitted an assignment submission for 'test'."
shortly after the submission. When a teacher grades the assignment, no further mail is sent. Shouldn't there be at least a mail saying "You received a grade"?
Sorry for my delayed answer. I overlooked your reply in the daily Moodle digest. I am using Moodle 2.9.1. This may differ from your Moodle version.
In a course, I open Assignment > Edit settings and scroll down to Notifications and select "Yes" in Default setting for "Notify students" and save it.
As a student I submit my assignment. Now when I log in as a teacher and grade the assignment, the student will be notified. This is the message that the student received.
With kind regards,
Thank you for your answer. My settings are exactly the same but no mail is sent after grading. So the assignment may be configured right. Other notifications are sent regulary. The cron job is running.
I'd like to know why this doesn't work? I go into Admin settings for Assignment (Site Admin -> Plugins -> Activity Modules -> Assignment -> Assignment Settings) and it says the Default is Yes.
I have tried both ticked and unticked
When I go back to each assignment in the actual assignment module. This is still greyed out!
In the Assignment settings, I can see that the default is: Yes
It seems either way, it does not allow me to notify students when an assignment is graded.
What am I missing? Am I doing something wrong?
I would like our students to be notified by email once they are graded.
Here is a screen shot what I have set up for assignments (Site Admin -> Plugins -> Activity Modules -> Assignment -> Assignment Settings):
If you tried this already and students didn't get notified, you may need to look into Site administration > Plugins > Message outputs > Default message outputs. Here is what I see at our site:
With kind regards,
Thanks for this! I checked the settings and they were identical to yours. I realised that the addition to Marking Workflow kept the 'Notify Students' box inactive unless Marking workflow was set to 'Released'.
Thanks again for your help!
Another thing to check is that your admin has enabled email messaging from your Moodle:
Admin - Plug ins - Message Outputs - Manage Message outputs:
Then, click the Settings link for Email.
My Moodle wouldn't send any emails because I had an out of date STMP host. Once I cleared out the textbox and left it empty (which is the default), then my emails began working.
thanks for your answer. E-Mail settings should be right cause the system sends all other notifications without any problems.
Did you find the solution for this issue? I'm having the exact same problem that you have !!!
Please help me!!
I too am having this exact same problem. It worked for me about a month ago, but has since stopped working. All of my Assignment settings are set up correctly as per the responses of others - emails are working for other things, so I assume that the SMTP side of things is set up correctly - it is just the email notification back to the student to say their work has been graded that is the not working.
Looking at other threads in this forum, it looks like many people have this problem, but there are very few solutions.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Which moodle version you are using?
It is Moodle 2.9.2
