Thanks for responding to my two cents.
I assumed the site's primary navigation is in the black top menu bar - Home, documentation, downloads all seem to be pretty core web site content. The internal distinction between who owns or manages what content is not likely important to the public user's site navigation.
Perhaps I am just to jaded by ads everywhere, but I assume banner type pictures or slide shows are not important (typically temporary promotional material) and I usually don't even notice what they say. They don't grab my focus when I am trying to find the most important
link on a web site - using a full web browser. This is probably becoming a less effective strategy with the move to mobile menu design - but that still does not justify the removal of the item from the traditional menu IA structure. Also the design of that busy orange image is not very easy
to scan and identify the link.
