Moodle document - Please help

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how we can implement this document into the moodle?

its currently a paper based system and we know that moodle should have the capabilities to hold a document like this.

This is a student workplacement logbook and the student needs to fill out daily sheets. We want this available online.

Can anyone suggest a way of doing this?

We created one option, however it involved a number of quiz submissions and we don't believe this is the best way.

We also have our practical, summative assessment sheets that we wanted to implement in to the system. we thought a checklist could be created however the CEO would like to see if the document can actually be integrated itself.

Both of these documents are attached.

Thankyou for your help!

Hi Emily,

the first question I would ask, if this would be a call for consultancy: If all your students are local, and you have already a working digital system based on Excel sheets and Word.docs, why do you want to change this?

Is there a big potential to save time or money? Or would this substitute one system by another? I would recommend, before you ask the developer forum for a plug-in, the project target should get sorted in more detail.

Does the work/learn places  offers possibilities and good conditions to be online during writing the journals?

And back to your question: Yes, its possible - depending on the budget. Maybe with standard tools, maybe some development.

HI Guido,

No its not a call for consultancy, as we already have a consultant on board with us, we don't have a digital system based on these excel sheets and word documents.

These are currently printed for all of our students, so it is not cost effective for us to keep these as a paper based system. We have over 500 students at the college and printing 3 logbooks each, of at least 50 pages. We currently have our assessments online through the moodle system so was looking to see if there was a way to implement these as our consultant wasn't sure of the best way to do it, so we thought we would reach out.

These workplaces do offer them the time and possibilities to be online during writing the journals, which we also provide them an online access and a device.

Thankyou for letting us know its possible though, we will look into it.

thanks!

For the spreadsheet, if you're just looking for a list of criteria a student needs to meet, with an option for the teacher to select Yes/No and add a comment, then my checklist plugin ( https://moodle.org/plugins/view/mod_checklist ) will do much of that already (although some development work would be needed to generate the final output you want).

The other part would probably be a custom plugin (but I could be wrong).

If you are looking to employ someone, please use the Moodle jobs board at http://moodle.org/jobs , instead of posting in the forums.

We already use the checklist function, however it is not working how we want it too!

We aren't directly looking for someone, hence why i posted it here. We already have a moodle consultant but we were reaching out to see if there was other ways we could attach this issue, and we have seemed to find some! So we will look into putting them into practice.

Thankyou though! smile

I think you could probably do a lot of that without any need for a new custom plugin. Or possibly with some creative styling being applied to the grader reports for that particular course.

Page 1 of the spreadsheet looks a lot like a standard grader page if you just turn the student names down the side and the criteria along the top, while page 2 likewise turned around looks like a fairly standard rubric. Page 3 could probably be achieved through the gradebook as well. As Davo has also pointed out, you could probably achieve quite a bit of it using the checklist plugin too.

The log book could probably be achieved using a wiki or journal - particularly if you switched back to the TinyMCE editor and made use of the templates function. That may take a small amount of developer time (or at least someone happy to be working with the TinyMCE files), but it is an optional part of TinyMCE, just one that isn't enabled by default in Moodle.

What Richard suggested are all well suited to your spreadsheets. the Grading tool and checklist can do it much better than the .xls file does.

The log book can be done in Wiki, or in Database activity, or even in Feedback or Questionnaire activity.

Easy peasy.

Thankyou so much for these suggestions!

We are trialling them out this week! smile
