Have installed Essentials on moodle 2.8.7, but the Atto editor's Auto save and Restored messages doesn't show. Is this a known problem with a solution?
No and thus no.
I don't know what you are actually talking about Peter, so please could you provide more details of the functionality, with screen shots?
What version of Essential (Essentials is a child theme) are you running?
Does the problem happen in the Clean theme and thus not a theme issue, but in fact something else?
The moodle version is 2.8.7 and the Essential version is 184.108.40.206 (Build: 2015061902). The Auto-save functionality and messages I'm asking about is in the Moodle native editor "Atto" (since 2.8).
CORRECTION: Now the messages show also in the Essential theme. I'm not sure why they didn't show when I posted the question earlier today... Sorry about that!
Here are screen shots showing the functionality/messages:
So there is not an issue with Essential after all?
I am finding this is happening in all themes and so is not a theme issue but something to do with how the server now saves your text in ATTO.
I do not know if you have also found that the 'draft' copy of the text sometimes reappears every time you begin a message or add a comment in a forum!
I am beginning to suspect that there is a Moodle 'bug' loose somewhere.
I think you are right. In the 2.9 QA Testing, I had problems testing Atto Auto-save feature. See https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDLQA-8084
And that was not new. I see 2.8 had similar issue: https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDLQA-7600
So probably is a bug related to display the message (and then could be a theme problem) but nobody take care of it since the text is saved.
