I was wondering whether it is possible to setup Moodle to have 2 different access levels?
Ideally I would like to have an open access (no user id and password) - publicity front to Moodle but with some degree of functionality - specifically a database (previously created) and promo-views of E-Modules.
The other would be student/teacher access - I am more familiar with this access setup but my question is whether it is feasible to do both and how?

Moodle already has Guest Access. You can set up your demo courses and give guests access to them. Under authentication settings, you can set it where Guest does not have to log in and this will give them access to those courses you designate.

Thanks for the speedy response - much appreciated. When you say give guest access that suggests there needs to be an active exchange of access - ideally what I want is end-users to be able to link from a website direct to the a moodle page which has the database function and the demo of courses without any need to login. How would I set that up?

It is already in there. Any visitor visiting the site is automatically a guest. You just need to give them access to specific courses and change the setting to stop them having to Login as guest. That will allow them to enter the course just by clicking the link.
