My course, with 460 students, has a mixed enrolment model - Teachers and Students are enrolled from an external database (that is maintained by the University).
Teaching Assistants and Tutors are manually enrolled.
The course has 20 groups, to which I need to assign all the students. The groups have been externally defined as well, so each student knows which group he or she belongs to. In a future update to the database, the group information will also be imported into Moodle. It isn't now.
I was reading about the use of enrolment keys.
Can these be used to manually enrol students to groups? They are already enrolled in the course, and have logged in a few times.
As the teacher, I do not even know how it would look like from the point of view of a student logging in (if it were even possible).
I want to use enrolment keys because the alternative (myself moving these students into groups) is highly error prone.
