After some time, I've just realised that a lot of the settings have vanished out of the user profile (edit) page in 2.9 (perhaps they went in 2.8). Where have they gone? I have been soundly defeated trying to locate them

They have been moved to the drop-down by your (typically) upper right photo. Drop down, and then pick Preferences. Email digest is now in the Forums part of these preferences.

Ahh... I am using a theme based on the Bootstrap3 theme and that (currently) breaks that menu (the Preferences option isn't there).
However, you gave me a clue. Thanks
