How to have my custom CSS applied within TinyMCE?

I have added some custom CSS to the Clean theme through the admin interface:

I figured out how to add buttons to TinyMCE to generate HTML that has those styles, e.g.:

<span class="snippet">my text</span>

On most pages within Moodle, the custom CSS is applied, but it seems not to be applied within TinyMCE editors, so I am unable to tell where I've applied my custom styles.  How can I apply custom CSS within the TinyMCE editor?

I am using Moodle 2.9.
