Yes, I saw your post. What you call sub-section navigation I take to be an inner level in a multi level section navigation. That is, both a section and a sub-section are actual separate sections. The distinction is logical and determined by the organization of these units in the navigation component. I think I've created something to that effect back in Moodle 2.3. Have not continued it though.
