How to handle backup/restore logs - moodle 2.7

Regarding the problem MDL-46455, what is the recommended procedure to handle backup/restore courses without loosing log data?

We will make a clean install of moodle 2.7 for the next academic year. There are always a few courses that need to be completely restored (users, logs, etc)... Should we enable legacy logging to handle this cases? Should we put legacy logging on the first position? Disable standard log? Is it possible to have the new logging system for new courses and the legacy logging for restored courses?

What do you recommend?

Thank you,
susana

Hi Susana,

Are you already using Moodle 2.7, with new logs (and not legacy logs)?

If it's the case, enabling legacy logs will not answer you problem : it just allows to generate 'legacy' logs, begining when you activate it. So, it won't generate logs for things already made!

If you use an older version, enabling legacy logs should allow you to restore them, MDL-46455 is not relevant in this case.

Logs store choice are general, you can't choose one for some courses, and another one for other courses.

You should vote/comment on MDL-46455.

Hi Séverin,

Thanks for your answer.

We are using Moodle 2.6. We will use Moodle 2.7 only for the next academic year (new install).
So, to avoid losing any data on backup/restore I should enable 'legacy logs'.  But should standard logs be enabled also? Why? And in which order? 'Legacy logs' first? Dou you know why?

Thank you again,
Best regards,

susana
