Just a thought and maybe one that isn't worth that much attention, but I was wondering whether anyone else saw a possible benefit (assuming it's possible) to being able to log in as a generic group or grouping member.
I am using groups and groupings and have had occasions where students weren't able to log in as I thought they would. I try to be careful to log in as one of the students in each group or grouping to see what they can see, but I obviously have missed things. Besides, I need to log out and in again each time. Changing my role to student doesn't show me which groupings are set.
Having said that, the information provided for the teacher view is getting better all the time, with the lines added for activities saying which group or grouping you need to be a member of in order to see them. The ability to hide activities so only particular group/ings can see them is really useful, too. Also, this way also leads to featuritis, I suppose.
Also, today's class went pretty will with everything working the way I expected it to. I had students sign up for particular groups which then made URLs for three links I wanted to jigsaw to appear to only the students I wanted it to. It went without a hitch this time, but that wasn't the case for another class I tried to set up. I think I overdid it with limitations set to particular groupings and to particular time frames. Which reminds me that the settings regarding availability wouldn't be easy to simulate logging in as. Hmmm.
Just wondering. Probably I'm just missing something obvious, which would be good to know.
Being a heaving user of groupings, I also think a feature allowing to take the role of a student IN A GIVEN GROUPING would be VERY useful (this could be a menu scrolling down from the "switch role to student link".
If anyone having a real hand on the tracker can see to this, I think many would benefit
I have four groups and two groupings. Yes, to select a group or grouping in "Switch Role to" would be easier than having to log out as me and login as a zombie student just to see how my course page looks with reverence to group filtering. It means that I have to have four of these students, one for each group/grouping and that is a lot of logging in and logging out.
Lately, I have been using two separate computers (not just two screens) in order to check my progress.
With reference to the dates on these messages, I guess this is not all that much of a problem for others,.... (:
