Recent activity not showing assignments

I have a recent activity block on my course pages (Moodle 2.8.1). It is showing activity for everything else just fine but is not displaying assignments that have been submitted by students. Is there a setting somewhere that I have forgot to mark?

Try Site administration>Plugins>Activity modules>Assignments>Assignments settings and then "Show recent submissions"
