Alter create group process

Hello,


I want to alter the process of creating a group. I want to move some buttons, combine some steps into 1 screen etc. What is the 'best way' of best practice to do this? Is it ok to modify the source code or is it better to code a plugin?

Definitely do a plugin. Probably either a 'report' plugin, or a local plugin. Either of those can add themselves as a new block in the Course administration block.

I did have the thought that it would be nice if the auto-create group page supported plugins to define different strategies for generation of groups.

Given there are already 5 hard-coded strategies, it shouldn't be too hard to make them sub-plugins with an interface to load the correct UI up (a la mod_assign etc).
