Hi everyone

I am currently using Moodle 2.6.10 and I would like to find if Moodle is able to send email notification to users about outstanding activities/resources. More especially in a quiz

Thank you

I don't know if you can do this.

In my courses, I have turned on the "Upcoming Events" block.  This tells students which assignments are due in the next 10 days.

I have also enabled "activity tracking", and installed the Checklist add-in.

That's about all that I can do right now.

You can do it for individual activities.

Course admin > Reports > course participation > Select activity > Look back (don't change or change) > Student > All Actions > Select All > With selected users > send a message > Go

I think the progress bar block allows this sort of thing. Last year Michael De Raadt added a contact student(s) function, I am not sure if its automatic or manual ...

Interesting thread and solution.

My own personal preference - a dream solution - would be to use My Home with that.  At least for a reliuable, comprehensive overview: what have I yet let to do, and in which courses..

It's a manual solution, but it works well.

It would be nice though if  though if there was some way to trigger this automatically, say 24 hrs before a deadline.

The Progress bar is one of the options I have considered, even though it is not an 'Offline solution' for the user. However it should be useful should they log in.

I will also try sending messages to individuals, as manual as it sounds.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Avtwe

Using Messaging as a solution is "semi-offline" in as far as the messaging can be configured to forward to a recipient via email if they are not online.  IOffhand, I can't remember if this happens by default or has to be set by the administrator.  Both of the systems I use do it automatically though.

I messaged Michael de Raadt about this and he set up a Moodle Tracker here:

https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/CONTRIB-5689

You might want to check it out and support it if it could help your workload.

All the best

Andy

Hi Andy

Thank you very much. I will install the Plugin, it is exactly what I have been looking for.

Kind regards

Thanks for encouraging involvement in the issue to extend the capabilities of the Progress Bar, Andy.

It might be possible to add some automation to the Progress Bar so that it can proactively notify students. Input on that idea would be welcomed.

For people looking for a solution in the meantime, I suggest the Event Reminders plugin, which sends messages based on the course calendar.
