if i want students to be able to enroll in a 12-week course at anytime, and release one lesson a week to each student as they enroll, no matter when, is that a possibility? if so, how. in other words, it just goes by week not date.
Yes as the settings are there and moodle is flexible. Have you already got a moodle installed to explore these possibilities yourself? As that is the best way to find out. There are plenty of course building tutorials around. Please continue here with your questions , as it will help others as well as yourself.

yes this helps. However if you only want the next lesson to be released not by date but by number of days, say 7 days, how would that be done?
