Encouraged by the improvements in the Tex/Latex side of the essay question type (the equation preview button is very useful) I am assigning more of these problems in my physics classes.
I like to assign a numerical question (using the Formulas question type or Calculated question type) with randomly generated numbers. Then I ask the student to justify his/her answer in a follow-up Essay Question.
BUT: the grading process is made more difficult by not being able to see the question just before the essay question. At least that's the problem when the grader clicks Results > Manual Grading.
As a work-around, the entire quiz is visible and can be graded by clicking Results and then clicking on each students' quiz attempt but that way is very slow because the grader has to navigate though all the questions, and has to pull up each student manually.
So my question is: can the Results > Manual Grading functionality be enhanced such that the question prior to the essay question is shown? Or can information from a prior question be somehow fed into an essay question? Maybe variables from calculated question type could be shared with the essay question type??
