I was reviewing one of my quizzes when I spotted what seems to be an error in the way I've set it up or a glitch - either way don't know how to fix it. Does anyone have any suggestions? (Using Moodle 2.6, but quiz was set up with earlier version - not sure which).
The situation is as follows:
The quiz is a combination of "multiple choice” and "calculated” questions. Students are allowed 1 attempt at the quiz in a time restricted window. However, they may take unlimited attempts at each question (adaptive mode) with a 50% penalty applied to the 2nd and subsequent attempts (i.e. no marks awarded unless the student gets the answer correct in the first 2 attempts). The quiz is paginated with one question per page and "free” navigation. With this set-up, after the student has entered/selected an answer they can either "check” or click "next” to go to the next question. If they move to the next question without checking, Moodle saves the answer they inputted but takes no further action. If they check the answer and get it wrong Moodle highlights the incorrect response in red and notes that a penalty has been applied. So far so good. However, if they enter a second answer and click "next” Moodle saves the answer as before, but if the student returns later to the this question Moodle will highlight the new answer in green, if it is now correct, or red, if it is incorrect. Using this method of entering multiple answers but not clicking "check” the student can have multiple attempts at the question until they get the answer right and then click "check” to submit and be graded as if it were the 2nd attempt.
