Ben, We always have this issue (with seeing no reply button) when we group our forums to separate groups. All of our students in each course are in the same group, so we leave the forums ungrouped now, and the reply button is then available.
What im wondering is if the person who crrated the forum post (teacher?) needs to be both enrolled in the class and added to the group before grouping a forum would work.
