Database time format and exports

Database time format and exports

I know this is an old issue but I have a further question on exporting data information from a database.  I created a database with a date field, exported the data and discovered that Moodle is outputting unix time/date, which is not much use.  I found a couple of converters and converted the data that was exported only to discover that the converted date is no the same as the date online example:

unix time: 1276344000

Converts to: Sat, 12 Jun 2010 12:00:00 GMT

Actual time recorded in database: 26 August 2012

Time recorded using drop down fields, so this is really quite bizarre and the dates are not back to front as might happen when converting from US date format MM/DD/YY to european format DD/MM/YY.

Anybody know why this might be happening?

Thanks

i guess i was using the wrong converting site, as i have now been able to get the correct date for this. so ignore that part of my question.
