Users who have logged in not showing in course (2.7)

We use version 2.7. We have a course that is not showing that some of the students have logged into the class at all, even though they have and have even completed assignments. Does anyone have experience with this issue or have any help as to why it's happening?

We had an issue a few years ago with our external database authentication. Occasionally the reference file would get emptied and not repopulated causing all the student to be deleted and re-added to Moodle. They wouldn't lose their data, but the course would show they had never logged in even though they had.
