1054: Unknown column 'emailteachers' in 'mdl_assignment' when upgrading from 1.4.3 to 1.5.2

In attempting to upgrade from version 1.4.3 to version 1.5.2 i find the upgrade failing with the following message ''1054: Unknown column 'emailteachers' in 'mdl_assignment'''. I did at one point install the newassignment module and don't know if this is part of the problem. I've checked the database and there is no emailteachers field, should i upgrade to 1.4.4 before moving to 1.5.2? Advice is appreciated.
