I am using Moodle 2.2 with various types of hotpot activities (mainly jquiz and jcloze). Recently many of my students have complained about the scoring of cloze video exercises. I used the following code to embed videos (from Stan Bogdanov's Hacking Hot Potatoes: The Cookbook):
<video controls="controls" preload="metadata" width="320" height="240"> <source src="ipad-video-file.mp4" type='video/mp4; codecs="avc1.42E01E, mp4a.40.2"' /><source src="webm-video-file.webm" type='video/webm; codecs="vp8.0, vorbis"'/><source src="ogg-video-file.ogv" type='video/ogg; codecs="theora, vorbis"'/></video>
Generally this works for showing the videos but the main problem is the scoring. Students complain about not being able to complete the exercise until they have got all the answers right (impossible for many of them as you can imagine). I have limited the attempts to 5 and with "last attempt" selected under evaluation in Moodle. In the past I have solved the problem by giving them a transcript for the exercise, but in this case I would like to evaluate their progress in the course (limiting it to three attempts). Many, however, still complain about receiving a 0 score after the attempts are completed.
Is there any way to make the video exercises more of a test (as in jquiz, for example)?
Thanks for you help.
