Hi
I'm trying out Essential and really liking the things that can be done with font Awesome. I'm on Moodle 2.6.4 with Essential 2014090306 and I've set the Font Awesome Icon Filter to work on all types of text:
Moodle auto-formatHTML format
Plain text format
Markdown format
I hoped this would allow me to use Font Awesome icons in course names but that doesn't seem to be happening. As an example (result attached), I changed the course name of a course to: [fa-info] Help! How to make the most of the VLE [fa-info]
... but the font awesome icons don't appear. Is there any way to make this happen, or does the filter just not work on course names?
An alternative for me would be to use the 'course description file' but this doesn't seem to display on the My Home page either. Am I missing something?
thanks!
Carol
Hmm once upon a time searching for "font-color:red" returned all courses in one of our departments, blue worked for another, not a good plan IMO.
Whats really needed is for the course image (summary file) to be shown in MyHome as it is on category pages.
On the subject of FA, we will be releasing an updated of our "Bootstrap Elements" plugin tomorrow into which Mike put a jQuery picker for FA, you can see that working here:

Something like that in Atto along with UI for size / rotate would be really cool would it not?
sorry for slow reply Mary, this was the bit I had missed. Thanks VERY much!
now there is a small issue I just manage to find, Carol you may want to take note of this before you get into trouble.
With FA used in labels, course wont backup, as I just spent some time jumping around as after a long time I tried taking a backup of the course and it was giving error, as I tried on courses that were hidden (means no labels, content) were taking backup fine. The error it was showing up as label_ui something, no help files are available for ANY version of Moodle for that, so tried testing different things until it came to my head the error could be related to FA used in label, so deleted the FA code and tried again it worked.
It could be possible that if special characters are used (like brackets ) in Label, it may fail to take backups.
Mary/Richard, I don't know how to report this issue in JIRA, can you please? if you think this is an issue.
thanks Usman, that's worth knowing! What version of Moodle and Essential are you using and do you think that's relevant? Currently I'm on Moodle 2.6 but planning to move to 2.7 soon.
Carol
I am on 2.7 using Elegance theme, as being filter, it will effect all versions 2.6, 2.7, 2.8 and so on. So far what I am doing is deleting FA items from headings and taking backups later to revert to iconic versions, it may be issue for you as in my case my moodle is open to public, whilst you may have students registered and taking backups at end of session may create problem.
