Could you explain more why you would need this, please?
I agree with Mary; we need a cleary defined use case. I think we need to proceed very cautiously with making the gradebook more complex. I think that this is a fringe case, and while there are creative ways that a user can go about this, I don't think we should make the gradebook more cumbersome for the majority of users.
I've set up gradebooks to mimic the kind of behavior you're looking to have. For example: A course with both Undergraduate and Graduate students where the latter has additional work. Using Groups+Groupings, a particular item/category can excluded for a subset of the course. This is relatively straight forward if you use a natural aggregation where all points are the same. I can be done with weighting, but it takes more thought to design.
