We are looking at swapping over to the Essential theme. One thing we are keen to do is reduce the size of the pre and post blocks and replace that free space with the main content block. I had a play with 'span' under columns but cannot get both side-pre and side-post to reduce and be the same size. How can I achieve this or does the responsiveness make this a problem. We are using Moodle 2.7.1 and the latest essential plugin.
Cannot be done easily if at all. Changing the block regions to use span2 instead of span3 breaks other CSS used in editing and is too small for the content contained in the blocks. Better off editing the config.php file on the layouts you want to use columns2 instead of columns3. You could change the number of columns in the grid to be more granular in the LESS and regenerate but then you would have to change all use of the spanX classes.
