I am still trying to get my Moodle admin to install the Poodll plugin. I have a few questions:
- Can the local Moodle admin set site file limits of recordings?
- Can permissions be set so teachers can use Poodll and not students?
- Can teachers control the file size of their learners' recordings?
I got the following response from my Moodle admin .... and I am hoping that maybe you could shed some light on how I should respond. Here's what he wrote me ...
"You should put a lot of thought into the use of Poodll and warn schools that
if they use it it could significantly increase their data usage. One audio
recording could potentially be very large, as in hundreds of megabytes. I
assume this would impact hosting pricing.
I understand the convenience of creating audio directly in Moodle but it would be better from a cost and server usage perspective to create them independent of Moodle and stream them from YouTube or sound cloud."
I obviously want to use this tool within the Moodle course site ....for all the obvious reasons, but I honestly never thought that there might be a cost associated with using it. Has anyone found this to be an issue? Have you warned your teachers about data usage? Are there any recommended guidelines for schools?
Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to this inquiry!! I am just trying to do my homework before I respond to my Moodle admin ...
