We have recently migrated to a new rental VPS. We are using moodle 2.7.2. I am the de facto administrator, but I have no experience with configuring a server, and am therefore a complete novice, so please bear with me.
The migration has been successful and the site is running smoothly. For the most part the server is performing well even under load. However, there are certain actions that are very slow even when I am the only logged-in user.
I don't know what server specs are pertinent here, but I'll relay some of what the hosting service has told me. The host is a "Supermicro 1U server with Intel Xeon CPU E5-2620 0 @ 2.00GHz,” and the VPS OS is CentOS 6.5.
Actions that take an unusually long time to execute include:
saving quiz questions after creating/editing
saving quick grading changes
saving a page after editing
Sometimes executing one of the above actions can take more than a minute, and during that time all other actions initiated on the moodle are suspended until the action completes.
Does anyone have an idea of what server configurations, if any, might cause this phenomenon?
