Help: Videos uploaded in folders are not playing

Hi guys,

I am using Moodle2.6.2 (Build: 20140310)

Basically, within a course, when I create a 'folder' resource and upload flash video files within that folder, when you click on these videos, they get downloaded instead of getting played embedded on Moodle itself.

When I don't create the folder resource, and upload a file directly via the "Add an activity/resource" option, the video plays!!

I need to have folders because I have a certain organization for materials within my courses.

Please help. I've tried a lot of googling to no effect.

Thanks

Hi

Did you enable multimedia filters?

And you config the media settings setting up video players?

All of these are enabled. The video when placed within folders still gets downloaded instead of playing embedded in the flow player.

Any other thoughts?

The resourse on course page is a folder?

It must be a file.

You must select one resourse per video link.

But that's just my question... is it not at all possible to 'organize' these file resources (videos) into folders?

You could put them into a Book resource. Then they would play embedded and yet still not use up space on your course.

Look at page 6 here http://school.demo.moodle.net/mod/book/view.php?id=261&chapterid=6 You could have videos on every page/chapter.

Thank you! It's still not giving me that flexibility to organize it how I want to.

I want to have at least two to three levels of 'folders' and then have my video content?

Surely... there's got to be a way to do this?!

By definition, and as mentioned in the documentation page, files in a folder resource are to be downloaded, not to be displayed nor played at the browser.

https://docs.moodle.org/27/en/Folder

The downside is that at present you are forced to download files stored in a folder resource.

You have three options, basically:

1. Wait till a future version allows displaying folder contents.

2. Hack the code.

3. Use a different approach, as has already been recommended. You could create a book or a set of pages, or have a normal web page uploaded as a file; you could the videos into IMS content packages (or if you want to grade, then into SCORM).

Your problem is that the Moodle 2 resource known as "Folder resource" https://docs.moodle.org/en/Folderr_resource is not a filesystem directory http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directory_%28computing%29 !

It is just a display mechanism similar to the omnipresent "desktop". Read: "Using a folder to display resources is neater than displaying files one by one in a list. It takes up less space on the course page."

This is a huge problem I have too with Moodle 2 as a teacher. And the scrambled storage mechanism is a system administrator's nightmare. I hope the developers will reconsider the repository concept in designing Moodle 3.

I use a number of web based storage areas, all with different storage types, copy the code and past into Moodle,  Some with slide 'code' This idea may help.
