No spell check button

After upgrading from 1.4.3 to 1.5.1 I found I had no spell check button.

So far I have:
  • checked the settings on adminstration page. (Aspell is on)
  • checked Aspell worked via command line
  • checked path was correct on admin page
  • checked the version  (0.60.2)
  • checked the dictionaries with 'dump dicts' (Included en_GB)
  • set language to en_GB on 'variables' page
  • check spellcheck button not 'hidden'
What have I missed?

Hello Peter,

I seem to have the same problem as you do. I have checked the same things as you and with me the spellingcheck button also will not show (in IE nor in Firefox). Also I have checked the Javascript console in Firefox and see no errors or warnings.

My version of Moodle is 1.5.1 (2005060210) and it is running on Fedora Core 2.

I have compiled an image showing all my settings and the problem. I hope anybody knows a solution to the problem.

Kind regards,

Hans

Hi there,

Have you emptied all files from your browser cache and then reloaded the page?  One time this was an issue for me with the HTML Editor.

HRH,
Tim.

Thank you for your suggestion. I have tried to load the page from a completely fresh computer (one that has never seen Moodle before), but I still do not see the button.

I do see the button on this Moodle site though துக்கம்

I understand that is quite hard to troubleshoot this problem, but I hope somebody else might come up with an idea.

I have solved my problem

I moved the aspell executable to the root-directory of my website, changed the the Path in the Moodle settings and now it works!

My server runs Fedora Core but has a Plesk interface on top of it. I use the Plesk Internet to create virtual hosts. I guess Plesk introduces some security measures that I do not fully understand nor was fully aware of.

I'd rather not have to move aspell.

Does anyone know where the setting made in 'Configuration » Editor settings' are saved? I couln't find them in 'moodle/config.php'. Adding the Aspell path manually did appear to do anything.

many thanks

I have solved this problem on a win2k box running IIS 5. Moodle data on C drive and Web directory on the D: (raid)

After upgrading from 1.4x to 1.5 I used my old config file which had path to  aspell. I commented out these lines and entered the path via Configuration » Editor settings and aspell now works

hope this helps

I did the same thing with no luck. If I deliberately enter the wrong path to aspell, Moodle complains, and I can't set the language, so Moodle gets the correct path. The most likely cause of the problem seems to be that the editor is failing to find where the path is kept.

Does anyone know where:
  • These config details are kept
  • Where I can check where the editor looks for them
Many thanks

I am too.

Running
Moodle 1.5.2 + (2005060222)

All worked fine with 1.4.

Any ideas??

My work around is to use FF and spellbound.

Still no luck getting the spell check button back.

Checked with my hosting company and all seems fine.

Anyone got this issue resolved?
