Is there an easier way other than uploading the document, going to the text, adding a hyperlink, finding the file. Trying to sort something for some very low ability students and need to try keep it down to 2 or 3 steps at the most. Any help much appreciated.
Which version of Moodle are you using? It is possible when setting up the essay question to allow attachments which then enables students to upload a file as an attachment.
I've just received a request from one of our faculty here as well, running Moodle 2.6.6.
Is it possible to insert (upload) an image in an essay quiz question?
Yes. Can't remember when that feature was added, but it is possible now. Check in the question settings.
If you are asking about students uploading pictures, no.
In Moodle 2.6.6 is it not possible for students to 'upload' images into Essay questions.
Students can only "insert" a picture into the textbox if they have the url, but they have no option to "Browse" in order to upload images into the quiz via the Insert Images button. The work around is to allow a file upload with the essay question.
I'd like students to be able to upload images in the Insert Image button option as well so they can upload a screen shot of their work for open ended math questions. It's much easier to grade open ended responses.
As of now, I simply allow the open ended questions to allow a file attachment. The only problem with this method is that if students do not put any text into the textbox, the answer comes us as skipped, so it is marked with a zero by default (until the teacher makes the adjustment). To get around, this, I fill in text in the Response Template so Moodle inserts text automatically and this question doesn't get marked as 'skipped'.
Thanks John! That's exactly what I was looking for!
In the 'Response format' setting, choose 'HTML editor with file picker', if that is what you want.
(Suggestions for better wording of that option are welcome.)
Tim-- Amazing! Just tried it an worked perfectly.
What I would do to have an ounce of your Moodle knowledge!
The reason I said 'no' in the previous reply is because I had the exact same question and first went to my Moodle Partner support (Remote Learner) who stated that the ability to insert images into quiz open ended items was not an option by design. So I just came up with that other work around.
I'm excited that this is not the case and my teachers will be very happy. Thanks!
Thanks Tim!! I found it with a bit of digging.
Very glad that it is possible!!
