Hi, my name is Daniel, and I'm running Moodle 2.3.2. It has been our solution for many years. We have been having some problems that I'm trying to track down. One of those is slow performance when:
- Logging in
- Loading a page (opening a course)
- Starting a video (.swf)
- Starting a SCORM quiz (sometimes freezing while Loading)
We're using this internally across an office network and hosting Moodle on a server with:
- Windows Server 2003 R2 (SP 2)
- Intel Core 2 Quad, 2.66 GHz
- 1.49 GB of RAM
- Hard Drive: 465 GB / 347 GB remaining
I'm looking at defragmenting the drive soon and upgrading the RAM, but on the software side, what are some things I can look at in order to better understand what's happening? (I have tried purging the cache.) Sometimes the pages, videos, and quizzes open without any lag. Other times they lag. Sometimes everything slows to a crawl and we have to reboot the server. This crawl occurred earlier today, in fact, and we had to reboot. Also, right now, I have a quiz that I launched, and it's stuck on the Loading screen. I refreshed the page to try again and same result.
I'm trying to learn everything I can about Moodle so that I can clean up our environment, tighten the bolts, and maintain it. So any help on this performance issue as well as tips for maintenance would be appreciated!
