I'm looking to gather interest for a request we've had at our University, and is something I think would benefit the wider moodle community.
Tracker Request here: https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-46461
In a nutshell, we'd like to see the assignment activity allow multiple parts/submissions for a single assignment. The grading wouldn't necessarily need to be split and/or then averaged, just the basic need to have students submit two discreet parts separately and asynchronously to a single instance.
The Turntin assignment module has allowed this for quite some time, and seems to work well. However we'd prefer to use the proper built in moodle assignment activity for this if we can. The grading seems to work better and frankly we're too overly keen on becoming necessarily dependent on a 3rd party paid service.
Also, in searching for a possible solution to this, I've found a similar feature request; that being the ability to create different start and due dates for different sets of students. I can certainly see many use cases for this reason for this, but I mention it because it seems to me that adding a multi part assignment option could solve this problem as well. 2 sides of the same coin so to speak.
Ultimately we're looking to find a way to help academics avoid creating an unmanageable amount of discreet assignment activities, and keep feedback to students simpler and more focused.
Any feedback on this, or suggestions to help us, would be very much appreciated, thanks.
"....create different start and due dates for different sets of students."
The ability to do this is exactly what we need. It would be fantastic if such a feature existed.
Multiple submission dates for different groups and/or people would be so useful for us. Most of our courses run multiple separate groups, and the groups start at different times. This allows for us to keep all content the same but have all users separate. However, it also means that we lose the use of deadlines for assignments. The only way to get them back would be to add lots of assignment areas, which would mean scroll of death in the course interface and the grade book. An assignment with different deadlines would return the ability to use deadlines and the calendar events.
