I am a newbie to Moodling and am learning more by the day!
I currently deliver training on a discussion forum based site by controlling access to specific forums. The forum control is handled by a neat subscription script called aMember. aMember will work with over 30 payment processors and is available with over 20 integration "plug-ins" (such as Invision Power board, VBulliten, Mambo, etc).
I am in the process of changing my site over to a Moodle site. The only thing I need is better ecommerce. Moodlers do a good job of developing the educational functionality, but not so well on the ecommerce side.
The subscription software business is a specialized business. It requires an intimate knowledge about how the different payment processors work and how each one handles recurring billing. It also has to handle subscription periods, renewal notices, recurring subscription periods, etc. This is where aMember really shines. They do this well!
If Alex (the main man at aMember) would write a plug-in for Moodle, this is some of the functionality it would add.
1. Subscribe students to the same course for different lengths of time.
2. The ability for a student to purchase multiple courses in one transaction.
3. The ability to have a course subscription be billed on a recurring basis.
3. Choose from over 30 payment processors
4. The ability to offer downloads for a fee.
5. Generate coupons that could be redeemed at checkout.
6. Implementation of an affiliate program.
7. And much much more....
aMember is not open source. The program is $140 and most of his plug-ins run about $40. I have made a post on his site asking that he look into writing a Moodle plug-in. While it would cost close to $180 to implement, this could be quickly recouped on a business site.
Take a look at http://www.amember.com/
My post asking Alex to consider writing a plug-in is here http://www.amember.com/forum/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=2755
Another option is if for someone else to write the plug in. This is above my technical abilities! Alex provides information on how to do this in this manual:
The information is on pages 60-63.
In summary this is not a ad for aMember. I have used aMember's subscription scripts for years on another project and have found the program and Alex at aMember to be top notch. I think Moodle integrated with aMember would be a great product for the business users. My hopes are that aMember will develop the plug-in and make it available on their site. If others are interested, it would not hurt to go register with aMembers forum and let Alex know that I am not alone
I have also submitted a ticket to aMember support requesting a quote on writing this plug-in if aMember does not put it on its development calendar. I will do this as a custom programming job if this is what it takes.
I will report back the status of this plug-in as soon as I hear anything!
