Creating 2 courses with same name but different categories

We are currently running Moodle 2.6 (Linux server).

In the process of creating courses for our next session, Moodle would not allow creation of a course under the Fall 2014 category because the same course is being offered under the Summer 2014 category.

Is there a way to create this new course without changing the existing Summer 2014 course? The Fall 2014 course is independent and separate from the current course (different instructor, activities, etc.).

Thanks for any help/insight.

Re: Creating 2 courses with same name but different categories

At my institution we append the term to the end of all the courses so that we we know what course is for what term.

i.e.  Ours are COMM-1000-011 (COURSE-NUMBER-SECTION) so we create them as COMM-1000-011-2013FA For 2013 Fall and 2013SM for 2013 Summer

Thanks, I was able to create the course by changing the shortname.

A course can only be in one category; however, please see #14 Can I put a course in more than one category? in the Course FAQ for a workaround.
