"Immediately after the attempt" means just that: immediately after the student has finished the attempt. So when any of these options are checked then after pressing the "Submit all and finish" button the student is taken to the review screen.
If any of the options after "Later, while the quiz is still open" are checked then the student can get to the review page from the list of completed attempts on view.php already while the quiz is still open, i.e., before the quiz due date.
"Later, while the quiz is still open" currently should actually read "While the quiz is still open" because it includes the "Immediately after the attempt". Perhaps this should be changed? For now I have changed the language string to "While the quiz is still open".
