missing paragraph format when copy from Microsoft Word

I am using Moodle 2.3 and need some help. A faculty noticed that their paragraphs copied over from Microsoft Word become a single paragraph when pasted into Moodle forum post.

Has anyone experienced this or know a possible reason?  

To troubleshoot, I tried using a microsoft doc on a Mac and also a PC but both were able to paste (even without using paste from word button) into moodle forum post and kept the paragraph spacing.

I'm not sure what could be going on.  Thank you for any advice anyone can offer.

Some people, still not used to Word processors or unaware of how they work, "create" paragraphs, new pages, etc. by adding spaces at the end of the text. When transfered to the html editor, duplicate spaces are removed. This could be a possible reason. You could ask her/him to send you the document so you can check it.

Another possiblitiy is that the text is being pasted while in html mode, instead of in normal mode.
