Moodle mails me to say backups have worked but no other email works???

As above really. I cannot get email authentiction to work on my install.
I am on Win 2003 with xampp.
I have tried leaving the smtp host blank or putting in my smtp server but either way when i then run cron I get a stack load of errors either saying...

Could not instantiate

or

Processing post 387ERROR: The following From address failed: rphenna@wallasey.wirral.sch.uk

also
if a user tries to create a new account they get the following error
ERROR: The following From address failed: rphenna@wallasey.wirral.sch.uk

Can anyone help with this one?

Hi

I'm also seeing the "The following From address failed" in the logs after people have updates news forums etc. Seems to've started after upgrading to 1.5.2

The email address is geniune and worked in 1.4, I can still send and receive email with my email client.

Running SLES9/apache2/php4/MySQL & MTA lives on another server if thats any use.

Can anyone give me a clue please?
