Exempt or Incomplete Assignment Code

Exempt or Incomplete Assignment Code

Is there a way to enter a code in the gradebook like "I" or "E" so an assignment does not count or get calculated for a student? I ask because at the middle school level, I have students that come in to my district late each semester, miss some initial assignments, and spend the rest of the semester with an incorrect semester average. Thank you!

I agree with you Rob.  Our district is using Pearson's product, PowerSchool for collecting and reporting grades.  One of the key ideas included is that an assignment can be omitted, marked incomplete, or marked as Not Handed In as a clear indication to those receiving the report what has happened.

Additionally, although this may belong somewhere else, I'm finding students who do not receive any sort of grade, do not receive an email notification of comments to change or make amendments to their submission.  This would otherwise fly in the face of supporting student improvement, mastery or having made a tiny mistake.

I'm very curious and will try to keep looking!

What agg method are you using? Do you only aggregate non-empty grades. Both settings on Cats and items. Don't understand why a student would have an incorrect average arriving late if you're not aggregating empty grades.

You can exempt students from a task but it is ridiculously fiddy especially in a large gradebook.
In the grader report turn editing on, click on the assignment or quiz you want to exclude for the student click the setting cog then exclude.

A standard "exclude" added to the drop down list for all assignments and scales would be way easier for all users.
Can you make that happen in the new gradebook bob?

Rob, aggregate only non-empty grades gets you the same thing but for everybody who doesn't have a grade.

Aggregate only non empty grades is flawed as students can submit one great 95% assignment and not submit the other 4 and it says they are on 95%
You then have to go through and put zero in for the in unsubmitted tasks. ( feature request for new grade book
A button at the top of the grading screen that says " flood zero for unsubmitted tasks" )
This creates another issue if you are using progress bars. Once you put the zero in the gradebook the progress bar which is set to marked goes green and the student and parent think the task has been completed.

It is certainly on the list to have a "fill column" function but most have asked it be a user-selected number, not just zero. This is for 2.8 which won't hit GA until at least October.
