I would advise contacting Rob Barreca at Schoolengine.com directly for support with this if you need it now, the current version is a pretty big modification to the standard Moodle code.
In the long run, the best method to get this into Moodle core would be for a group to get together the resources needed to implement the planned roles feature, IMO.
