Hi all,
There seems to be a lot of impetus and interest recently in developing Flash tools, compilers, libraries and all manner of other open source thingies. I just stumbled across this great site with a list of projects :

Thought this might be of interest to others here.

There are several projects underway developing sets of open source
components as an alternative to the Flash UI components (for drop down lists, combo boxes, buttons, dialogues and all kinds of other UI things) for Flash developement which I'm keeping an eye on, the most
promising seem to be :
- smx components still lacking documentation and may not be very stable they are developed by the B.B.C. who apparently will be releasing them as OS soon.
- actionstep looks like a promising project and many components are apparently working already.
Oh goody. There is at least some talk of reverse engineering the Flash Communication Server that is needed for receiving audio / video streams from Flash.
An open letter to Macromedia has been put together and at least a couple of developers are interested.

Another cool open source Flash project, released under a MIT license :
http://www.osflash.org/doku.php?id=xray_the_admintool
XRay (formerly known as the admin tool) allows you to take snapshot(s) of all of the internals of your Flash movie so you can explore the contents of all your objects and variables.

I'm attending the open source flash conference which will be taking place for the next few hours at :
http://ofla.breezecentral.com/ofla/
more info, program etc is here :
http://osflash.org/ofla_online
and here is the official theme tune for the conference :
http://radioblogclub.com/goto.php?id=31210_2
Among the program highlights are unveiling of a red5 prototype. Red5 for people who have missed my other posts is an open source alternative to Flash Comm Server. Also there will be presentations on two new open source GUI component frameworks, the MTASC os Flash compiler and more.

Still early days but there is an incredible energy behind the project and I should think that we will see great things in the months to come.
The next alpha release will stream audio and video to and from the flash player. Should be released in less than a month.

You can read more about red5 in the developers email list archives here :

Will give you an idea of the activity around and scope of this project.
