Upgrading a plugin | "Target location already exists"

I just tried to upgrade a plugin by

  1. Downloading the zip file
  2. Installing it

Got an error: "Target location already exists".  So, does this mean you cannot upgrade a plugin from the admin interface?

Well, that would make make sense ... if you downloaded the zip and then attempted manually to 'upgrade' ... which was really an attempt to install ... 'target location already exist' would be true ... folder in mod/block/theme/etc. already there.

IF there is an update to a plugin available in 2.5/2.6 when one goes to Site Admin -> Notifications - and checks for updates, you'll see a link there that takes one to a process for updates/upgrades to existing plugins.
