I was looking for an update on this topic today.There is an old discussion but I have yet to find an update on this (or some way to work within the current question types).
I haven't played with the lesson module but I know you can take students down a pathway given their previous answers. I don't know if it can take essentially a student free response <a number> and use that in subsequent calculations.
