Un-dockable partners block everywhere is horrible

OK, so the partners pay for this site, so they deserve some advertising, but adding the partners block everywhere without making it docakble is horrible. Once you get into the forums, it is nice to be able to doc all the blocks, so that all the screen-space is available for reading the discussions. This makes the biggest difference with deeply nested threads.

Please can we go back to only showing the partners block on the main course page, until such time as it has been changed to  be dockable. Thanks.

MDLSITE-2837 is the place to vote.

Thanks Tim for pointing out this problem with the Moodle Partners block. It now displays on course pages only.

Just to follow up, we've since made it so that the Moodle Partners block displays everywhere on moodle.org except on discussion thread pages in this course (MDLSITE-2837).

Any course facilitators wishing to hide the Moodle Partners block on discussion thread pages in their course can do so as follows:

  1. Turn editing on in your course
  2. Go to a forum in the course
  3. Click on the link for any discussion in the forum (doesn't matter which discussion)
  4. Click the edit icon at the top right of the Partners block and hide it
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 for all other forums in your course.

(As mentioned in the tracker issue, this method is just a workaround until we come up with a better solution.)

It might be better to make a separate space for this in the the page header area between the top navigation bar and the start of the forum discussion table, like so...

How about utilizing that space to revive the now hidden initial information of some forums?

You'll understand what I mean if you compare for example the "Hardware and performance" forum https://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?id=596 against its state once you start writing a new thread https://moodle.org/mod/forum/post.php?forum=94.

I'm smiling here as I think of Dickens' Christmas Carols but especially the 'Ghost of Christmas Past' in your case it is the 'Ghost of the Fake Block!' smile

Are these the ones we can't dock, like the three mini calendars and the ADD BLOCK, not to mention the frontpage 'Description'? At least the latter can be hidden, but sadly the rest can not. Making them dockable would be good, in which case these would need to be converted from 'fake' to 'real', a little like the 'Velveteen Rabbit'. smile
