Unable to load file using poodll video

Hello Moodle Help,

I am using Moodle version 2.41 in a hosted environment.  I just installed poodll kaboodle package which includes question, filter, repository.

It installed without incident and I in the plug-in section, I configured the filter and repository and created a repository instance as per the instructions.

When I run the file picker, my video displays in my web cam and it records but when I stop the recording, I get an error message, "an error occurred and your file has not been uploaded."

When I click Ok to remove the error dialog box, in the file picker, I can playback my video but cannot insert it into my page.  Please advise me if you can help

Many thanks

I managed to sort this issue out.  Apparently, the outbound connection to the poodll video hosting site was being blocked by my hosting company.  I allowed the connection and all is working fine.

Thanks Anthony Outerbridge

I am really glad you sorted it out, and posted back to report how you did that.

Thanks.

Orlando

What happens if , from the server, you do:

ping -c5 tokyo.poodll.com

If it can resolve the IP address, that is good. If not,  add

50.238.50.26 tokyo.poodll.com

to your hosts file, or just use the ip address in place of tokyo.poodll.com in Moodle.

Thank you Justin very much for your response. The traceroute is blocked on some point by the remote server 175.41.192.215, not allowed to come to tokyo.poodll.com. This is th traceroute from my server:

I think that it stops there because it has arrived. tokyo.poodll.com is on an EC2 Amazon server in Japan. Doing a traceroute from my server looks a lot like yours.

Perhaps the problem you are experiencing is not really that? Can you describe what is happening?

Do you get a green connection light on the video recorder? Are you able to record at all?

thanks Justin. Sorry to disturb. I have not tried video, I tested with mp3 audio. Recording flash appears, detects microphone, I recorded, audio levels act perfectly. I click on stop. It is processed. And then the sign appears "an error occurred and your file has not been uploaded." sad

In PoodLL there are two audio recorders. Only one of them uses tokyo.poodll.com. It is called the audio recorder, or cloud recorder. It one has a little green icon on the lower left to indicate connection to Red5. It will be red or orange if it i not connected.

The other recorder is called the mp3 recorder, which does not tokyo.poodll.com. It records in the browser. That might be the one you want, because is a lot simpler(network wise).

I have attached a diagram which shows them.

If you do wish to use the audio/cloud recorder, check if you can record from http://demo.poodll.com either video or audio. In the recording quiz at the top of the course. If yes then the problem is likely to be your configuration. If not, possibly your network settings?

If you are using the Red5 recorder(audio ,cloud..), try unchecking the mp3 checkbox. That is where most problems arise. It is to do with file conversions. It might help to clarify where the problem is coming from.

really appreciate your time and your help. Unfortunately I could not make work It. I uninstalled all poodll. I have only installed anywhere, but failure remains the same. The connection to tokyo is correct, it have green check mark. But the error is the some: "an error occurred and your file has not been uploaded". But not knowing what that error, we can not fix. Thanks anyway. I think I cease to use it, I installed another audio recorder, easier. Is more limited, but for now it is useful. We will leave that for now. Thank you very much again for all your help.
